Lex Gillette

Lex Gillette

Lex lost his vision when he was eight years old due to recurrent retina detachments. Yet, he is the best totally blind long and triple jumper in the history of the U.S. Paralympic movement. He is the current world record holder in the long jump, a five-time Paralympic medalist, a four-time long jump world champion, and an 18-time national champion.

He is the only totally blind athlete to ever eclipse the 22-foot barrier in the long jump. Sight did not determine his success, rather it was seeing a vision for the future and doing everything in his power to transform it into reality. He just published his second book about developing a new perspective, maximizing potential and overcoming barriers.

Jerome Avery

Jerome Avery

Jerome was an Olympic hopeful in 2000, finishing in the top 20 for the U.S. Olympic Trials and in the top 15 in the 2004 Olympic Trials. His purpose in life changed when he became a guide runner with the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field in 2004.

He has guided one of the world’s top visually-impaired sprinters, since 2014. Bound by a tether, runners sprint in lanes side-by-side, communicating by touch and sound with every synched stride as Jerome tugs the tether to keep his sprinter in line to reach the finish line. Jerome is a Gold medalist and has led his teammates to four Games and is preparing to compete with Lex in Paris in 2024.
